Can't slide lifter dowels in...engine not in car
So im doing a cam swap before i put the engine in the car. Engine is on stand and fully assembled minus front end taken off for cam swap.
After waiting 7 long weeks instead of the stated 4 weeks from EPS, i can finally do this.
Cam retainer plate is off.
rockers and pushrods are off.
pushed the lifters onto the cam, removed pushrods and then spun it several different times.
can still see the lifters in the way and cant get 5/16" dowels in, either side.
How do i get the lifters high enough to insert the dowels?
thanks

don't remember if I used 5/16 or 3/8 ( I do not use wooden dowels - am afraid the wood may break off in moter, I use fiberglass rod from Home Depo) cut/grind a flat about 1/8 to 3/16 wide down the length of the rod/dowel, look in to moter and line up the flat with the lifters should be enough room to insert ( if lifters are not pushed up into socks enough spin the cam again) then rotate the rod ABOUT 90 DEG

EDIT: but no the lifter does not come up all the way, there is a notch in the side of them which when they are up leave enough room for a dowel to slide between the lifter and the passage, but seeing as the purpose is to prevent lifters from falling through since there is no cam to stop them, once the engine is upside down they aren't going to fall so it's a non issue
