I put a 220 224 111 Ed curtis cam in a 5.7 gto. Has a nice little chop, and made 380 rwhp/tq with some heavy *** wheels and a ls7 clutch and flywheel thru cats and flowmasters. On a dd, Itd be perfect. Car is a ton of fun and anyone could drive it.

That might be a good idea too. All my friends tell me my car drives stock but I guarantee you a female wont agree that a 228R feels "stock".

Its really a great option for a street car. Id use it again in a heartbeat. Would make great power if it had all the bolt ons and some lighter drivetrain and wheels.

My mom was able to drive my z06 with the street sweeper ht (228 232 on a 111) and stock gear like it was nothing. But she isnt the average 60 year old woman. Seriously anyone could drive that gto tho. And it got 26 mpg with 6 dyno pulls, the street tuning, and the 280 mile trip back home.

It was tuned by Jeremy in Tampa, Fl at the time. and I only said that because people indeed ask that. Hell I even was asked if I had a Super charger from a guy when my power steering was bad LOL. I made that suggestion because he said its his wife's car. I can see what you mean tho because after I had more work done to it I found a whole list of problems to include the tune that was already done to it.

TSP cams will do more than fine with her car 224 or 228 with a good tuner.

Thanks again guys! As an FYI it is a LM1 but we got the exhaust used so we can sell it if need be. It was her choice actually.

Ironically Jeremy tuned my 93 Hawk while it was in FL having the motor done. Driveability was pretty good, but I only drove it 15 minutes due to motor issues.

I am glad I read this thread as I am searching out cam options for my Firehawk. I am either going with one of the Tick cams (stage 2 street heat or torque max) or Texas Speed 224r. Thumbs up for another female Firehawk owner I look forward to seeing what you all decide on going with and how you like it!

Sorry for the hi jack OP. I understand that the stock 28lb flywheel will store more inertia and therefore take longer to come down to idle. Thereby a 12lb flywheel will come down a lot quicker, but its very easy to tune that out with the IAC motor in these cars.

To the OP and other's looking at cams, while Im not knocking the TSP 224 or 228, there are better lobe profiles out there now. The XER lobes are a bit harsh compared to some of the newer stuff. I believe the Tick torque max stage 2 is on LSL lobes which are faster off the seat than XER and softer landing, but still a bit harsh for a street car IMO. HUC, LXL, marine, or EPS would be my choice for lobes on a street car depending on duration/lift wanted. They will all be very quiet and easy on parts. Tool steel retainers for years of no maintenance too.

A great tuner will make the car act like it should. You can only do so much with a tune to make a car that has to much cam in it for its weight and gear.

It needs to pass a plug in emissions test too. Round trip to work is about 30 miles mostly city driving so she doesn't travel far. I've been leaning towards a Hot Cam but I just wanted to see what else is out there. Cost isn't a limitation as I assume I'll spend about a grand for cam, tune and springs. I'm relatively new to LS cars so suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tony
I'd say do a thunder racing 224/224 .581 cam. Sounds nice and has great drivability. A buddy of mine drove his to work everyday and went 10.70's with this cam. ( Only problem is, is they aren't in business anymore but I'm sure somebody has one sitting around)
