Default Trick Flow Cast 220's vs PRC As Cast 225's

Just looking for opinions and advice on the benefits and negatives if any of both heads. I am trying to decide between the 2. Motor for now is a LS1 with 235/240 .648/609 111 cam. Later on will be bigger CI and boost possibly.

One option I almost went with was TFS As-Cast 220s hand ported by Brian Tooley. Add the turned-down LS3 valves, PM guides for stock rockers, BTR springs, and the hand porting and it's still less than TFS 215s stock.

And that setup will most likely outrun it while having a more stable valvetrain due to the lighter valves and lightweight stock rockers.

If you don't plan to mod the heads to make them work to their fullest, the difference between the PRC and TFS are minimal. Go with whatever is cheapest.

But, if you want bang for your buck and a better overall valvetrain reliability, work with Tooley and let him spec you a cam that'll work better than the Tsunami you have now, and get some of his SLR lifters. I think one cam he likes to run is his 235/242 111+3. It makes power.

the TSP PRC heads should have powder metal guides ,allowing the use of stock GM rockers.

That's true. PM is standard on the As-Cast and an option on the CNC heads.

"Stock" 220's worked very well for my application. I plan having them worked on if I decide on a 383 or bigger.

I'd have to go find it, but it was around this:

1700 heads, 200 port work, 190 valves, and 150 PM guides. So around 2300. Plus if you order a FAST 102, he port matches that for like 200.

I already have a Fast 92, but i may get some ascast 220s and do like your saying. Was he decking the heads any for that price?

Yeah, decked to whatever cc you wanted and he put his BTR springs on there. If you send your FAST to him, he will port match it.

The port work isnt a CNC finish. Just some hand work done to clean up the casting. Apparently as cast it flows well and makes power and just needs a little touch to make it flow like a CNC head.

We hand work all the PRC as cast heads prior to shipping so they are fully hand blended. Furtermore the PRC as cast heads have cnc shaped guides for added air flow. Just take a look at the PRC port & the TFS port from the chamber side. It's easy to see where the additional airflow the PRC offers is at. Basically I set out to build a as cast version of our already proven runner. The result is a cylinder head that makes awesome power & airflow for a very very sweet price. I'm working on the LS3 one now!

Currently I have a batch of the bronze guide heads. Personally I really like the bronze, but we can get you whatever configuration you guys want.

PRC: Notice it looks just like the 227s just in a as cast version. Even the guide is fully machined.

Heres the best pic of the TFS, hopefully you guys can get a look at the guide for comparison.

I think you're pretty much splitting hairs regarding the two. Both heads are great choices and both are going to be within a few HP of each other with a nice spec'd cam.

By the way Darkstar632, your avatar is very nice.

I was pretty much going to do the exact setup Jake listed in his first post. TFS as cast 220s, let Brian work them with his hand & turned down LS3 valves, pm guides, btr platinum springs & then let him port match a FAST 102 intake to the heads, along with a custom grind he specs for that setup. That was going on my forged 347ci, but have sold it off to move to a C5Z lol. The point was the TFS heads will be badass. I will do the same thing in the C5Z when I get it. Tooley is an awesome guy to talk with as well
