Thanks awesome! Normally when they fail the way yours was failing it will thow a code. Not so much when they just drop dead. When the sensor starts to go it uses the cam sensor as a temp back up.

Awesome fix again. Ill have to keep that one in the back on my mind.

BTW isn't that sensor a blast to get at? up next to the starter!.

Steve

OK so I spoke too soon I guess. Seemed to be fine just reving it in the driveway but then took it for a spin and the problem is still there.

Replaced the cam sensor and no change.

Working on getting some data loging going so I can see what the ecu is doing.

I would check plug and wires. I had a similar problem that started around 4,500rpm. Broken Plug Wire was the issue.(Taylor Wires suck IMO) Installed MSD's and could not be happier. Good Luck finding problem.

The plugs and wires are new, checked connections and everything is fine.

Visually checked the rocker arms and springs, everything is fine.

Datalogging cable en route, hopefully that shines some light on the issue.

Nope and I've verified the tps reads correctly throughout it's range with my multi-meter.

Did you have the problem before the new plugs and wires? New doesn't mean they can't fail.

Could have cracked a plug during install as well.

Visually checking them, sometimes you can't see a cracked spring. I had two shops visually check mine years ago and said they were fine. So I took them off myself and found one crack into. That was the last time my car has been to a shop.

I think when you replace the crank sensor you have to do a crank relearn don't you? Did you take it somewhere to do the sensor or did you do it yourself?

Well I had to when I replaced the Crank sensor on my cobalt anyways. Not sure if its the same with the V

A crank relearn is alway a good thing to do, but I don't think it will help in this situation. Plus they tend to learn in over time given a couple of full test drives.

Responding to close this out for any who dig this thread up:

Yes. I had changed the cam but the valve springs were stock and I assume floating at WOT above 5k rpms. Replaced the springs with stiffer aftermarket units and the issue went away.
