Question 806 Heads vs. 241 Heads?

Hey all,

So now that my '98 is back on the road, my buddy Steve and I are looking into getting my '01 running great. The heads we took off of my '98 were makred #806. The '01 has heads marked #241. What differences are we looking at between these two? Are the water jackets different, valve, etc., etc.?

I guess I want to know if the need arises, can we use 806 heads on the '01? If so, do we need to change anything with the intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, and what have you?

Thanks!

806 heads use perimeter bolt valve covers.241 heads use center bolt valve covers. From what I remember you can use them if you use the proper valve cover. I would prefer a set of 241 heads myself. Other than that I pretty sure that they bolt right on.
I have some perimeter bolt valve covers if you need them.

Thanks man. I've got the valve covers for both, among other pieces. The only reason for this is just in case one (or both) of the 241 heads are warped. It's got a head gasket leak so we're just trying to cover all basis' prior to ripping into the motor.

That is incorrect. The ports are identical.

the port shapes and sizes are the same however the casting process from the
two different foundries apparently has the 241s flowing about 5-7 cfm better.
I've not personally flowed both, but the CAM ONLY guys like the 241s as well.
Obviously a quality valvejob can also be worth some flow inprovement on
either casting.

All things being equal, you'll never notice the difference. An ls1 head is an ls1 head.
