Ls1 build
Ls1 build Ok so I had some questions about building a motor...I have about 4600 to spend I wish I had more obviously lol...but my questions are, should I build a short block with forged pistons and rods for 200 shot? Should I even run a 200 or just do 150? I have also been having a hard time figuring out what cam to pick...I have a 02 ws6 full bolt on fast 78, sfc, 10 bolt rear 3.73 I know it's a weak point saving for that too, 3800 stall and performabuilt lvl3...I really just want good track times, I daily drive the car but more concerned about its performance...so if anyone could chime in on a cam that would be awesome...also can I make do with my 241s can I get any power out of them or do I really need to get better heads...if I could low 7s high 6s in the 1/8 that would be great but please if anyone wants to answer any questions this would help a lot...really a big question is how much power will I see from 241s ported to say a ls6 head ported?
Ported LS6 heads will be the better choice here, but ported stockers with mid a size cam will make some good power too. And if you do nitrous on top of that you will then DEFINITELY need to upgrade the injectors and fuel pump.
Yea I have a set of 241s and I know a guy that does porting an has a flow bench...I think most ls6 Cnc heads are like 1500-1700? Right...so that the only reason of do my 241s to save money...but what is the difference in power I will see? And what fuel pump and injectors do I get? Like 42lb injectors? And i know I really love the sound of a lope, it is so hard to pick a cam lol...
If it were me i'd just have the stockers worked over since it will be way cheaper. Plus for the extra grand that you would save you could have a kick *** nitrous setup, and make like triple the power of those LS6 heads lol

42 lb injectors and a Walbro 255 pump would work great as well Alright thanks a lot for the answer about the heads...I just bought a nx maf nitrous kit that came with linginfelter timing controller, bottle warmer, ashtray switch, purge kit, msd digital window switch with 150 jets and 200 jets for 650 bucks...that's not a bad deal right?

EPS is a sponsor here and they are very popular for custom grinds among a lot of people. Also Tick Performance just came out with a whole new line of cams and people are having great results. They can also take one of there shelf cams and tweak it a little for you if you want. Call Tick and ask for Martin, he will take care of anything you want to know.
You will need pushrods and springs at least. Other recommended stuff is oil pump, lifters, timing chain/set, injectors and 255 fuel pump will also greatly help. Im going through it right now and stuff that you need piles up faster than you expect lol. Good luck
Edit: get on youtube and search for Tick SNS2, EPS cam, TSP 228, TSP TV2. Those are some popular cams that make good power and have nice lopey idles, should be able to find plenty of dyno results both on here and on youtube. People overthink cam selection just because there are so damn many.

Go with a custom grind.. Pat G and Martin @ Tick come to mind. If you are patient and not on a time crunch i would go with a Pat G custom and request EPS lobes or have Geoff @ EPS spec it out for you but its like a month wait period for EPS to Send out the Cam. Either of the mentioned guys above would be great IMO.
We have many customers running the track times you're looking for with our cams. Advanced Induction does an awesome job with 241's if you're wanting a great set of heads. Phil@Ai also offers a HCR option where he welds the chambers to achieve a higher CR without losing P to V clearance over stock. 11:1 compression is generated with a stock bottom end which with any of our Stage 2 cams would run the times you're looking for and drive well enough to DD.
Now if you do build a forged engine, I would highly recommend a bump in compression from 11:1 to make the most of your set-up and match the cam timing to the static compresion to have a combo that makes the most of the fuel octane you have available locally to you. I feel a lot of guys with forged bottom ends who could of run much more compression safely don't take enough advantage of what they could have. Keeping quench area small will also pay large dividends as well. The main benefit in a set-up like yours aside from added power is the increase in drivability it will bring. Compression and quench can help a larger cam drive like a more mild cam.
