Can you buy new bare 243 heads from GM
#21
You could have bought a used set for 300-400 since you want to port them anyway...
After the head shop bead blast and cleans used heads, you can't tell them apart from new heads.. IMO
Good luck either way

Just because idiots like you buy top of the line heads and intakes doesn't mean that everyone should. So buzz off if you have nothing to say that helps guys with tough choices. And ported GM heads aren't as good as over priced aftermarket heads? Go tell Cartek that crap. They got more 10 second cars and you can still drive on the street. An he used ported LS6 243 heads.

Exactly...just help the OP. Don't post up BS like " don't buy stock heads, aftermarket are better" Better how? They mean buy the most expensive heads like AFR, or PRC, and Trick Flow to name a few. When those heads cost a mint. Most of the guys that buy those heads use them more for bragging rights them how they perform. Ported stock 243's and or 799's will perform as good or better than SOME not ALL of the aftermarket heads. It's been proven at the track for years now.

What's the point? Well genius the guy might want ported stock heads. Maybe his daddy doesn't give him money to throw the highest LS parts on the market.

They are discontinued. With that being said, there are still stockpiles of new heads around. SDPC might have access to some.
Ai used to, but no longer.
TEA still has access to them. I got mine through them when I ordered new ported heads.
And to the guys saying screw stock heads. I didn't cut any corners in my build and I went with stock ported heads over the "so amazing OMG" aftermarket heads for a reason. And it's pretty simple. You don't give up jack to an aftermarket casting in terms of power - at least not from what I've seen. What you gain is lighter weight and the use of stock rockers out of the box. Both of which were important to me. I didn't want to add a ton of weight to the valvetrain or to the overall mass of the car.
Now, if you're running lots of boost or nitrous, or a very big motor, the aftermarket castings have their place. The GM LS3 and LS7 castings can be called upon for those larger motors and will work just fine.

We do have 243/799 castings with a better valve than stock, stockish springs, and they are complete with brand new 5 angle valve job and flat milled. They have stock ports. They are $850 shipped for the set.
Most of the time the rebuttal is "well i can get a used set on here for $400-600" yes but sometimes that includes shipping sometimes ot doesnt. They are used heads. You dont really know their condition. You're going to spend more than our price on a valve job, knurled or new guides, and flat mill and clean.
Just another option.
I can see if we can get bare castings also.

GM still sells head replacements for the base 2500 series vans which come with the 4.8 and 799 heads. So somewhere they are still making them under P/N 12629058. I think it is the last GM LS motor still made with a cathedral head.
