Default Single vs. double roller timing chain

are there any benifits to getting the double over the single. All I can think of is cons

Pulley needs to be machined
Spacers for the oil pump
oil pump pick up needs to be bent a little

Are there any pros or more cons that i havent listed

I didn't have any of those problems when i installed by double roller. IMO its cheap insurance when you are building a motor.

i dont have an asp pulley but the spacers are easy, and I had no trouble with the pickup tube. And the double roller is alot stronger, and with most of them you can adjust your valve timing. Also, like HOTROD, its a cheap insurance piece when building a high hp engine. Think if you broke the stocker... bent valves, notched pistons, bent PR's, all kinds of bent and broken ****...

The guy who is building my engine just had me get the heavy duty chain that Chevy sells. Also, since the motor is out he had me get the timing chain dampner that Chevy sells. It's a plastic piece that goes between the cam and crank sprocket. I believe this dampner is standard on the LS2. With the dampner you have to tap a couple of bolt holes.

just compare them side by side, the double is just damn beefy , couldnt imagine breaking it. installation isnt much more work then a single and they cost about the same. the question should be why not a double

Where did the chain poll thread go?

As I recall, some had no trouble with stock chains and some broke the doubles.

Cost is almost double. Installation is quite a bit more involved. You have to loosen the oil pan to get at the pick up tube bolt which bolts to the pump.
