best oil for the LS1 engine?
I changed to Mobil 1
and now my engine sounds like a bag of marbles for the first 45 min
till it quiets down
I heard to use a PF59 filter as it has more flow too
Engine is just noisy
Help!

Dude, there has to be atleast 20 threads about this. Try searching, I know the search function isn't too great on this site. But use google and just put something like, "best oil LS1tech" or "LS1 oil LS1tech." Trust me you will find plenty. I run GTX 10-30 with the slightly bigger oil filter for the truck. My T/A loves it.

I don't think oil is your problem...but yeah...there are a million threads on "which oil is better"...
I feel changing your oil is more important that what you use. I run RP HPS only because I do...Nothing wrong with many of the known off the shelf brands. Just don't run it for 10,000 miles! If you drive your LS like I know most people do...Should be changing it at 3000 miles.
What oil were you using prior to Mobil1?

This guy likes DINO oil for his harley makes it quiet
I may get some ...
I have been a synthetic oil fan for years..Mobil, Amsoil etc...however, I am returning back to dino after i noticed a reduction in valve train noise when on a trip i made an oil change to dino as a temporary oil change....I have done some research and it is obvious that modern oil is good stuff and the key is to change it often....I am certain i can change the oil every 3,000 miles and the filter every other change and come out ahead of that 12.99 a quart oil.and still maintain adequate lubricants in the crankcase.....I have oil coolers on both bikes and i do not dog the bikes....
----->Read this.....I had to get rid of the Harley Syth oil out of my Sporty, made it sound like a chatter box.
Switched to Rev Tech's 25-60. Quiet as a mouse.
Never going back to syth

I have tryed a bunch of different oils and filters. Pennzoil platinum , castrol gtx, regular pennzoil. Valvoline vr1 is currently in it for the second time. Tryed weights of 5w30 10w30. Even tryed 15w40 once. I've heard not a single diffrence in sound. Still kinda loud. I used a napa gold filter. I have given up on trying to make it quieter with oil. Pretty soon ill just stick with one brand and run it till its done.

Don't declare anything as being the "Best" until you have proof. 5W30 in Syn is too much like water and doesn't do much for cushion in the hotter months. I use the 15K M1 Oil in 10W40 during the fall/spring months and 20W50 during the summer months. I only use 10W30 when it gets colder than 30 degrees F. I change oil every 10K or so and my 5.3 doesn't leek a drop nor does it use any either. But then, I'm not pushing all the power most of you are, I am towing quite often and using my truck for off road use A LOT!
To each his/her own I guess.

Well as usual these oil war threads don't get to far, I'll say this just run any good name brand synthetic oil and you should be fine. Pick one you feel is better and be happy about it, people get to rapped up in oil brands and such. Now that being said in my car I run Royal Purple XPR.

I started using the Edelbrock zinc added (only 1350ppm but it's hard to get any higher) 10w-40 stuff. It's actually made by Torco but seems to be holding up well. It's a "don't use cats oil" as the zinc will cut their life in half.
The zinc is suppose to give the oil a great anti-shearing ability. It's been reduced over the years because of the EPA and the fact it kills cats. Only black ones though.

What kills me, is why would my truck require 5W-20? Do they expect it only to run in 70 degree weather?

I wouldnt be set on buying a certain brand name of Oil. My buddy owns a oil distributing warehouse here in michigan. Most brands are bottled in the same factory such as pennzoil and Mobil 1. Ask yourself have you ever saw a mobil 1 commercial bash pennzoil? No they bash valvoline because Mobil 1 is essentially Pennzoil. If its SAE certified its pretty much all the same stuff. Castrol isint even a oil company its just a marketing company that buys other suppliers oil.
