Post Another Cam Question

I finally have the money to buy a cam and all the valvetrain upgrades i need. My car is a daily driven car in the summer and my goal is to hit 400Hp. I have done lot of research and i came up with the Tr 224 with 112lsa but lately i have read a lot of posts about people regretting they went with a 224 and they wish they went bigger. Now after doing a little more research i figured i'll get the tsp 228/228. is this a good cam that i can reach my goal with or should i stick with the tr224.

My current mods are an air lid, filter, free mods, pacesetter lt's, and loudmouth.
After the cam i plan on getting ls6 intake, underdrive pulley, ported TB.
thanks,
Tony

Ignore them.

TR224 is a very nice daily driver camshaft.

yea i am curious about the 228 as well...

i am currently trying to decide between a MTI C2 and TR224... i didn't want to go quite as big as a TR230 but what do you think about the TSP 228?

If you need to pass the sniffer, don't go any bigger than the 224.

I've been looking at people's track times for years now...and doggone if I can see the HUGE cams having much of an advantage (all else being equal.) Is that last possible (only if you have the rest of the car setup to take advantage of it) little MPH worth it in a car that you drive on the street frequently? Only you can decide that.

A 224 cam is good for NA 10s with the rest of the engine/car setup correctly.

You really need to throw that HP goal out the window. It just sets unrealistic expectations and is functionally irrelevant. Better goals are good drivability, good torque, and fun to drive. If you race, set a ET goal.

i agree with everything said above...i went with tsp's 231/237 and dont get me wrong I love the cam and the sound but lost a ton of low end tq...from the graph's ive seen of the "smaller" cams like the tr224 and such the onlything you are really gaining on a stock cubed motor is peak power...my peak is above other cars with the smaller cam but under 5000rpms i make less avg power than most so it all depends on your combo...ive got 2.73 gears & a smallish 3500 stall so im definitly not taking advantage of this cams powerband...to really take advantage id have to have 3.73+ gears & 4400+ stall but the car doesnt see the track very often and will kill most other cars from a roll & I get a few "DAMN!"'s around here when i roll by and really thats what I wanted. Oh and yes you can hit 400peak with that cam but its not all about peak.
