legit horsepower numbers?
i know these type of posts are annoying, but im looking at a 99 TA. and the guy claims its 500ish horsepower... but to me, the numbers don't add up.
hes got a 228/228 588/588 comp cam. double roller timing chain, ls7 lifters. pacesetter headers and borla exhaust. it also has 4.10 gears and a hp tuners tune. no head work.
hes never been on a dyno but he's guessing his numbers off of other cars he's raced and beat. several 425 hp zo6's and said he was neck n' neck with a ls2 goat spraying a 200 shot.
his 1/8 mile time wasn't real good but he claimed he spun down the track. consistent 8.73's on street tires.

That dude is the typical guy who knows nothing and either adds up advertised gains from individual parts or is just making up numbers based on his "experience"...my 380-390hp car has beat plenty claimed 500-600 hp cars..
The numbers are defiantly bogus especially with stock heads because that's where the real power is made...also remember someone like that probably rides his car hard and puts I away wet lol...I'd rather have a stock car that's been taken care of then one with a bunch parts that may or may not be installed right and been beat within an inch of its life...

Sounds close to my '01 T/A; Baby comp cam, full exhaust + cutouts, Stock heads and LS6 intake with Volant air ram, ported TB, pro tune. 385rwhp on a Mustang Dyno a few weeks ago. I can say that sometimes the car feels like more power, runs good against some 400rw and up cars, maybe some are heavier and I'm running with 1/8 tank of gas but I could see how he thinks there is more power back there

I believe it was Pat G who experimented with a few different custom speced cams that He speced who with a stock LS1 did achieve just a tad over 500rwhp in His Pontiac GTO or Pontiac something . H/C/I and bolt ons . pretty impressive but all the parts were matched really well,,,,,,

THIS ^^^
(That might even be optimistic but its right in the ballpark)
The math cuts thru all the BS.....it cant be argued.
Even if he wasted a full second spinning his tires that 1/8 mile ET converts to a 12.7 run in the quarter (assuming he spun so badly he lost a second.....it really actually converts to a 13.7 second quarter).
Even assuming a crappy 60 foot, a 12.7 run in a 3900 lb car (weight with driver) only requires 400 HP AT THE CRANK
The guy is clueless.....full of ****.....or both.
Welcome to the hobby.....LOL

PS....A rule of thumb that's fairly accurate for converting an 1/8 mile pass to a quarter mile pass is to take the 1/8 mile results and multiply by 1.57 It gets you pretty close every time. Try it for you guys that have a time slip and see how close it is. Its never usually off by very much if the cars working properly

What would be more telling than ET is trap speed which is minimally effected by wheel spin.
OP....if you want to put the nail in this coffin get me his trap speed in the 1/8 (or the quarter) and we can nail it down.
