yea I gotcha. The stall I was thinking would be best was 3600 rated converter. Being that I'm just on street tires, do you think I'd benifit more from a 3000-3200 stall?

You'd benefit from a lower STR. The old Yank SY3500 was great on the street with a 1.65 STR.
FTI has a 3600 with a 1.86 STR. Greg could probably build it custom.
Then there is what I have. Chris @ CircleD put their E-series stator in the regular 245mm billet hub. It's a super efficient design with an STR around 2 (stock is 1.9).
Lower STR makes a converter feel a little more loose, but you can roll into it easier without obliterating the tires.
The SS series have a really high STR, so they punish the tires and feel really tight.
Just depends on what you want.

I've been looking at the Yank 3600ss because of how many people say its great on the street. But with that high of a STR I dont know if I'd benefit from it. Looks like I would just be burning tires up. I read a couple posts on here saying you should get a torque converter built custom for your application. Is that really necessary?

word. I got one more question. I was gonna go with a built transmission and put the aftermarket converter on that because I'm at 110,xxx miles on my stock one. Do you think I'd be ok to put the aftermarket converter on my stock trans now with those miles on it or should I just wait til I can get the new transmission? I plan on driving it pretty hard if that matters.
