The LS3 cam would work well.

You just need to get the 1-bolt to 3-bolt adapter kit.

Lol, it would be fun to swap them like baseball cards, but in this install it would take a weekend!

Thanks.
Stock cams are generally smooth sounding. This one made the 5.3 sound bone stock. Drive-ability was awesome.

Or just run a 1 bolt cam sprocket. Doesn't matter if he needs no cam signal.

There was a recent article in Car Craft on cams in the 5.3 motor. The cam they selected as best bang for the buck I seem to recall was the LS1. They tried several GM cams. Might be worth a look. Search in the forced induction forum as someone posted the results there.

How long ago was that article? 6.2s haven't been out forever.

Hey thanks. Is that article in paper only, I can't find it either.

Peaking over to the above linked thread, I see a lot of promising options.

I couldn't find the mag on the news stand - are there really news stands anymore?

Never mind, the article is on the web this morning!

You know, the LS9 cam might be a good choice for me. I am in a 5-speed 1990 300zx whis is a bit lighter than the average car here I think. Gearing on the car is low - I don't know the numbers but it is low. Lower RPMs blast by fast. The car is geared for a motor with peak power high in the RPM band.

Right now I have a stock, semi broken 4.8 in there. 1st gear is wicked touchy with the torque of just the 4.8.

My intentions for the 2003 5.3.

new springs
new lifters
new pushrods
Speedpro 4.8l pistons for a ~1 point compression bump
freshened bearings all around, of course.

My original question was answered here, and thanks. I guess I'm just spouting....

Quick Reply: LS9 cam in 5.3 question. No cam sensor required.
