Question light suface rust on new lifter ok to run?

Hey guys I have a brand new set of ac delco ls7 lifter I bought well over a year ago, just been sitting in the garage. The box never got wet or anything but when I pulled a couple out and looked at them they have a couple really light surface rust spots on them. Should I just take some really fine sandpaper and wd-40 to them? Will they be okay to run?

I would try some steel wool and WD40. If it doesn't seem to work 100%, get a new set and don't risk it.

I think it will come off pretty easily. Also there isn't any rust spots on the rollers.

Get some scotch brite pads and clean them up. Make sure your rollers are rust free and turn freely.

If it were me I'd get a new set. They are not that much. You risk making sure the roller is not spotlessly clean. If you use a scotch brite pad in my opinion only bad things can come of it.

The rollers all spin freely and don't have any rust spots. If I clean them up what could it hurt?

The lifter / lifter bore is teh tightest tolerance in the entire engine. You really want to risk it?

what exactly is he risking?

clean it up with scotch brite / 1000 grit sandpaper and drop it in the bore to verify it glides nice and smooth. any remaining surface rust will be ground off in probably 10 minutes run time.

I agree. Hell first I think I'd try some mineral spirits or rust remover and see if it just wipes off if not then use very find sand paper. If theres any pitting on the rollers from rust then I'd get a new set
