Question question on 243 heads and valves

recently bought a pair of heads, one is 799 and the other 243. the 243 exhaust valves look like they have some sort of coating-tan in color- on the valve face whereas the 799 valves dont look like they have any coating but steel. also one of the exhaust valve face a small area of the 'coating' is gone.

If you are running these on the same engine; you might want to ask someone if they have the same combustion chamber volume.

243=799 so they have the same 64.65cc chamber volume.

Pictures would be great, but so far what your describing sounds pretty normal.

Question

disregard the "5" i was labeling each chamber so i know which valves go to where when i reinstall them.

At the 7 o'clock position

is this cause for concern?

Remember some of the 243 had sodium filled valves. Look for the 5.7 casting on the bottom of the head in the area the lifters would be under. only 243 from the 5.7 had sodium valves.

^ ONLY 243 "LS6" (found only on ZO6 vettes) heads that had the sodium filled valves, not thee same 243's found on GTO's, base Vettes etc

LS6 valves are roughly 20 grams lighter as well as .0236" of an inch longer

ohh I forgot....no that isn't a problem with the color of the valve. If only one was a very different shade of color I would be suspicious but they are all that color you say. And remember factory non modded engines run very lean.

appreciate the response guys. i asked cause the 799 exhaust valves felt and looked different, much more like the intake valves.
