4 bolt or LS
Wondering on a good build, probably gonna keep the stock bore, crank and pistons in whatever I build unless I plan on going all out. I currently am running a 4 bolt with cam and heads, good high 7 set up and street friendly. Kinda thought about getting a junk yard 5.3 or 6.0 and putting a good high rpm range cam and some ported 243 heads, convert to carb and bolt it up to my stalled 350turbo trans. Kinda looking to run 7s consistant instead of hit and miss
An LQ9 with just a cam will probably put the same amount of power to the
ground that your GEN I makes at the crank. Spend even a few months on
this furum and you'll realize that it's really a no brainer....we don't need to
talk you into the fact that the GEN III is superior

What vehicle? Your not going to get that kind of ET out of a 6.0 and surely not a 5.3 with 243 heads. Depending on the weight of the car, 10s maybe...high 9s, but in a standard weight car, its not going to happen especially NA. Your pushing the factory bottom end to the max+ too!
If you are hard core drag racing, you need a BBC with huge cubes or an aftermarket LS block designed for big cubes. The stock LS engine do have killer factory heads, but they are not designed for brute drag racing applications.

Stock SBC heads suck yes...Factory LS heads are awesome.
A SBC can be built to be a beast so I wouldn't say the LS is that superior. It depends on what you are comparing.
FWIW...Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro-Stock are not running LS engines...what does that tell you?
6.0 block ported 243's 11.5 comp nice spec'ed cam your intake choice fast or carb style try doing this with a SBC and repeat this performance @ what cost.I had a 383 with a 248 cam 602 lift and Elderbrock E-tec heads 195's ported/750 Race Demon, I think it may have had 520 fwhp or more and I spent well over 5 grand U could repeat this and better. Now I'm doing a 408 LQ9 Solid roller .....
That is subjective, even more when you consider the application. A factory headed LS can make as much and even more than an equipped SBC with similar cubic inches. Add in the fuel injection and modern technology, yes the LS is a better platform. The thing is you can't say an LS will make more power than a SBC, there are many more variables.

ly the op was saying his best 1/8th time....
The op was asking whether he should go LS or stick to his current combo
given these 2 choices....again I repeat GEN III hands down. I did not claim
it to be the end all be all engine for pro category racing. However there are
at least 20 different design enhancements that when built apples to apples
will always make more power than a GEN I......

maybe lower the compression on your gen 1 ,and bolt on a centrifugal blower .I remember jegs selling a basic blower for $1995 ,with a top hat.or look at a 6.0 ,will the elderbrock intake/ignition kit work on a 6.0 ?
Are you the same poster giving 7 second 1/4 mi recipes ????? When it's like-

He's talking eighth mile for sure...double humps head 350 in a skylark running 7s in the 1/4? Come in guys...common sense!
That being said, OP an Ls swap will make you forget about sbc forever...that big if a difference for sure!

To the OP. LS hands down to SBC stuff ALL DAY LONG! I unlike alot of people on this board raced SBC stuff for years and there is NO WAY a SBC will make the power and have the reliability of a LS engine dollar for dollar. You say 7 sec time slips? Well most bolt-on stock motor camaros run mid 7s at 3400lbs.
With that being said, Jesup isn't far from Valdosta, get the motor in the car, we will put a plate kit on it and I will help you spray it to low 6s.

Know any Junkyard 454s you can buy for >$1000 that are up to the task?
That's a set-up I would interested in seeing. The short block may be a cheap junkyard peice, but how much invested into to make that kind of power? I know cost is always subjective as deals are around, but real world how much money are you talking?

This fella here spent some tall cash on his LS engine......................

Tigger you're right on.....you could spend months on the bullet lurking at 8 &
9 second turbo combos with junk 5.3 and 6.0 liter engines. The only sucky
part is that most of them are fox body stuff. Even the conversion forum here
is loaded with Mazda, Toyota, Datsun, and Nissan swaps w/turbos and I have
yet to see one that is slow or expensive.
I'm guessing the op has yet to stop back in
I almost forgot about this high dollar build too.......
