when do i need an oil baffle?

Default when do i need an oil baffle?

60' time wise? i am in the bottom 1.5x range now and i can see my gauge go from 80psi to 50psi at the drop of the clutch, then climb back to 80psi in 2nd gear. i run 6 quarts and have an fbody pan. any input? can i add an extra .5 quart to get away from putting the baffle in before the winter?

What rpm are you at before you drop the clutch?
What rpm are you at when the clutch engages?
Are you sure the psi drop isnt due to the rpm drop?
Just a thought.

I'd thought of that, but the pressure doesn't rise with engine rpm in first gear. It's in second before the pressure starts to climb again.

I've been toying with the idea of an accumulator. Some of my buddies simply said to put one more qt in. I'm running six now.

Accusump & no more worries about starvation, if fitted with a solenoid you can preprime your engine before firing it up.

just an update, i put a moroso 20140 and associated pickup on the car, and this problem magically disappeared
