What are you guys using for an IAT sensor? How are you mounting it?

Thanks...

I am also curious how ppl are mounting the IAT and what sensors are needed for speed density after you ditch the MAF.

I might need one of those Tick single plane camshafts soon as i'm fitting a super vic/4150tb to my cammed 346.

Reason i bumped this old thread was more to ask a Q, has anyone out there running super vic intake or similar, run their MAP sensor from a vacuum port on the back of their 4150 throttle body itself? The Super Victor intake comes drilled for only one fitting (which i need for power brakes). Wondering if the MAP sensor will read properly from the TB or not. Otherwise i will drill and tap the back of the plenum for another brass fitting and connect the MAP sensor with a short tube.

Run a tee. The brake vacuum won't disturb the MAP signal.

I was thinking that but not sure i want to run the MAP sensor bunched together with the brakes. My TB has 3 ports on the rear i don't need. One is larger and about the right size for the MAP sensor. Just wondering if anyone has run their MAP from their TB and no issues.

I prefer the MAP to be in the plenum for an average reading, rather than just one of the back runners like i've seen done.

Thanks. I will make a decision when the intake arrives on Monday. Because i need to drill something for the IAT sensor also. You would think Edelbrock would have put some more damn threaded holes in it, considering it's an efi intake.

There is nothing wrong with teeing into a line running off the one tapped hole. It can be done in a neat and orderly fashion.

I drilled a hole into the plenum, the drilled and taps a hole to install a bolt to keep it in place.

Can't wait to get out and tune it. But i'm not allowed in my state for not essential, we're still in lockdown. I still need to hook up the throttle cable, check the TPS voltage, etc. But it started first time and ran well as it was.

All i did to the long motor was match port the stock 241 heads to the felpro gaskets as the super vic ports are a bit larger than stock cathedral heads (i did that on the car by stuffing paper down the ports, used an air die grinder, then vacuumed out all the aluminum).

I also had to port the top of the super vic plenum a little as it was over hanging the 4150 throttle body in a few places. So i opened it up and smoothed it out for a nice straight shot through the 4bbl blades, no over hang.

If the current plastic intake cam is no good i'll advance it 4 degrees, see how that does. If still no good i'll throw in a good single plane cam. Get some runs on the cam-only sbe 346 and see if i can finally break it by shifting at 7700rpm LOL. Then i will go back to building my good engine, LS2 block with the small bore nascar LS7 heads i have.

Also if anyone is wondering edelbrock has improved their fuel rails from what i had read about them in the past. They now use -6AN orb fittings which went in nice. Also the insides of the rails are big, more like 10AN size. So i used -6 orb to -8AN adapters so the fittings and crossover line are -8AN size for better flow. And nothing leaked on the first start and warm up. I was impressed

Glad you got it working. I’m looking forward to your results.
I wish Edelbrock would standardize their stuff. I had heard that they changed the fuel rail sizing for the single plane intakes, yet for the Pro-Flo, it’s still NPT. At least the ones I got about 6 months ago were. I had to drill/tap to get larger fittings into them for -8 lines.

Got the throttle hooked up and i'm driving it. I ended up with the IAC unplugged. I removed the TB and tapped/blocked IAC hole on top with a M12 plug, as the tune was making the IAC erratic. It's not even needed. I set 900rpm idle with throttle blades, she runs and drives around absolutely perfect at all throttles, does not play up anywhere. I decided that the IAC valve is dangerous if it ever decides to stick open. Better off without it, i can't see a reason for it.

I was just out tuning the car now. 1st gear is f*cking nuts, and so is the top end carry. Just sotp the car has picked up everywhere at WOT, i was shifting at 7800rpm it happens so quick. I see rods flying out this junkyard 346 soon

It's not supposed to work so well with the wrong camshaft?? Maybe it's because i have an exhaust cut out and i'm testing the car open exhaust, and my car is light and my 4000 converter has always hit very hard from the day i bought it, plus i tune the engine to it's limit, no knock sensors or any torque managment enabled just raw afr/timing for premium pump gas. But man... i will have to get a vid but 1st gear wot from the hit on the street is now on ice on 28x14.5 qtp's at 16psi. I now have to peddle it off the line whereas before i could WOT and not lift once and it almost dead hooked. No other changes, just the swap from stock ls6 intake/stock ported TB, to the efi super vic/1375cfm TB. And even peddling it it still moves out damn fast it has so much more power/torque in 1st gear. I need to add ballast to the rear bumper at least 100lbs for the street. The car has seriously picked up mid range torque, not lost. I need to get the hood scoop done next to cover the velocity stack in case of rain.

If you are going single plane intake, super victor at minimum for a cam-only 346. I can only imagine it with a pair of cnc heads and whole more point compression or more. Any more serious engine will just benefit from a mast or cid single plane.

I did this to see if i like the single plane/ efi TB set up, for my next engine. Well , i'm sold. I will be buying a CID efi intake for my ls7 heads for my other engine.
