Default AI ported 241 vs PRC 243

I was wondering what you guys though on how these two options would compare. Which would make more power? Which is the better bang for the buck. Or are they pretty much a wash. I would send my stock 241 of to A.I. To be cnc ported and milled to 62 cc cost is $995 or do I pick up the PRC stage 1 243 for $1200?

Id go with AI, their heads always make power. Another really good choice is TEA, they do great work for a good price.

No knock on PRC but Id go with AI. What are your goals and what mods do you have/or plan on doing along with the heads? Two good examples..

Well right now I have the gm hot cam and supporting mods which I'm very happy with. It made 370/370. So I'm looking to top it off with a good set of heads and I got a used set of 1.85 rockers I'm gonna add as well. I'm expecting to be over 400 rwhp all said and done

I think if 400ish rwhp is your goal, 241s are fine. Heres another good read were Phil at AI touches on the rockers too..

HCR 241s are near identical to the ported 5.3s and he already has 241s.

That's a good read. I wonder if I should even bother with the 1.85 rockers now. I'm gonna have to give A.I. A call and see what they think

If all you want is 400whp than save the extra 300 bucks and send off your 241's..

I've been fighting with the issue with getting heads but to me heads only 417,449rwhp or what ever I can't see that happening when several guys on here have ai h/c barely make that horsepower

Sweet98ss 432rwhp hcr241 ai 230/238 cam bbk intake

Camaro99ss 437rwhp hcr241 ai 230/234 cam fast 102

Crazy elf 424rwhp ai 226 ai 226/234 cam fast 90 intake

So in other words with these heads a cam and intake is only worth 0-15 hp.yea yea yea every dyno is different but wow is that all you get from the cam and intake not to bash anyone but could someone explain to me better

Well comparing dynos in different parts of the country isnt smart. If I remember right crazyelf cars is an A4. The HCR thread I posted with Camaro99 is said to be a stingy dyno and now it has hit 450 rwhp. I think taking a look at the gains with the addition of H/C is more importan than peak numbers. Another good read showing AI's potential..

I can't imagine there is going to be hardly any difference in HP/TQ between the two, so I would just go with AI to port your existing 241's.

My car dyno'd 445 rwhp with AI 243's. Everyone went "meh".

Ran an 11.26@122.3 with a 3450lb race weight. Rowing a T56. I don't know what people are expecting from a stock cube build, but I'm fairly happy with that type of performance.

Even though I'm not a fan of these topics, the prc 243s are going to make more power with everything else being equal. 243s are simply a better casting.

AI heads and PRC heads will perform well. IMHO it comes down to preference, customer service and budget. Having dealt with Phil and Jason....I choose Texas speed.

I make 460rwhp with my PRCs

Something I experienced with AI heads......midrange, and a ton of it. They make power, everywhere.
