Default Super quick air filter question

Okay,

so my mom goes in to have a smog check done. The technician finds some kind of problem with the filter or the intake. He takes off the intake hose and the filter, tells my mom to get another filter and then come back and re-test. He NEVER put back the filter on.

I thought, and have been told, that you never drive your car (daily driver) without the filter on.

Oh...the guy said the filter was not a CA legal cone filter. Mom drives a '97 Camaro V6.

For starters, this forum section is for LS engines, not V6 engines.

It sounds like the technician can't put the non-approved air filter back on the car.

Sending your mom to buy a new filter would be futile because it sounds like the intake has been modified for the cone filter.

Assuming it passed inspection, you can put the filter back on yourself.
