Default Cam and lifter surfaces disintegrated

My engine recently developed a rattling noise. It sounded valvetrain related. I pulled the heads, lifters and cam out. The hardened surfaces on all the cam lobes and lifter wheels has started tocome off revealing a pourous material underneath. Has anyone else experienced this? What could have caused this?

It was a T1 cam. 370 lbs open spring pressure. Stock lifters. Lunati says 380 lbs is fine.

The cam bearing journals all look good. There was no metal particles of visible size in the oil filter. All rocker arms look good. All lifter wheels turn freely. Oil pressure was good.

Could it be a problem with the hardening process on the cam?

I am waiting on a friend to upload pics.

Used to happen all the time when a batch of bad LS1 hotcams came out from GM. What cam did you have, a stock one or what? How many miles on that cam?

I would love to know too. My 222/114 from Agostino started coming apart , and one of the filings got stuck in the oil pump, needless to say that is BAD , and had alot to do with the stroker i currently have. I would love to know what caused it so it doesnt happen again , & i dont have to worry. When that happened i lost all oil pressure , on the freeway , one lane , no shoulder , stop & go traffic , for 2 miles , with no place to pull over.
