How to build an Ls1 ?
It's the precision tools that tend to make do-it-yourself engine building cost prohibitive. If you don't have access to mics, runout gauge, very accurate torque wrench, angle-torque meter, feeler gauges, etc it gets seriously expensive buying them all.
If this is your first engine, I'd recommend getting an experienced mentor to come over and help you...the LS1 is a tad more complex than standard smallblock Chevy engines.

But as mentioned above, tooling can get expensive. Some can be rented, but do you really want to buy a tool you'll once and then watch it collect dust in your toolbox? But there is something about having done all the work yourself!
