Yup. There have been issues with lightened k-members and street driven vehicles. A lot of revisions have gone into them, but you still can break welds and the k-member can come apart on you. And that = holy hell bad.
Best thing to do is either stick with stock, or don't buy the lightest one, and then routinely inspect it.

@jake yes the aftermarket k members have gotten a bad rap, lateral side loads on the k members were giving them trouble..
I have a bmr k member but I definitely won't be drifting around corners lol

I was TOLD that a new K member will save you 50lbs, delete the entire power steering system and run a manual that would save you another 50 lbs and new upper and lower A arms will save you another 15-25 lbs. Like I said that is what i was told idk how true this is but again that is what i was told.
However speaking of steering mods. Has anyone tried to swap in one of the late model electric power steering systems?
Not sure about weight savings but it would eliminate the power steering pump.
