Default Tick Performance emission friendly cam

Just looking for some info on this cam. How does the cam perform, what kind of gas millage does it get? I searched but I couldn't really find much. And also, whats the valve train longevity like?

Basically I live in the comi state of California and I want to get a cam that would be good for a daily driver and that would also pass the smog, so no headers. I also like that the sleeper approach, I have been thinking of getting an ls6 cam since it would pass the smog and drive like stock, but I know I could do better. I have an m6 2002 z28, right now my performance mods are port and polished throttle body, lid, ftra, cat back, and under drive pulley. I got some 243 heads that I'm planning to send to ai or west coast racing cylinder heads, and I been debating on what cam to get.

I believe the lobes they use are CompCam LXL lobes, which will be easier on the valve train(and quieter) that the LSL, XER, and LSK lobes used on many CompCam grinds. Now if you are more worried about valve train life than power then look at CompCam Xreme RPM lobes. Another nice option is the Crane 149561 (216/224 115lsa, lift .551".551"), it has -10* overlap like the Tick cam and, but with better low to midrange power and HP peaking around 300rpm sooner.

ls6 cam and procharger, also look and see if guys are passing with longtubes, i know ive seen guys swap headers for e test, i would be looking straight at boost, only way your going to get good power and pass emissions, bobs brute speed,d1sc,you can also get a better cam than the ls6 and still pass

I'm sure Martin@Tick will see this thread soon and reply publicly for you, Empatho, but if you'd like an immediate answer, shoot him a PM. I think you'll be impressed with Martin's valvetrain knowledge!

For the valve springs I'm looking for something that would not wear them out to fast, like in under 35k miles. Ill be happy with 35k+ miles out of the valve springs. If the valve springs last over 35k miles with the tick smog cam then I'm good with that.

I like the fi power but its way to expensive to do it right, even though I did think of going with the ls6 cam since it works good with boost. I just need enough power to stay on top of the food chain of all the new stock cars, like the 5.0s and camaros.

I'm considering doing this cam or something similar in a ls3 427 stroker with prc 247 heads and 11.5 compression. seems like the specs of the cam are extremely similar to the stock ls7 cam.... i'm looking to make right at 500rwhp if possible and i've seen people make that with full bolt on c6 zo6 with stock cam.... my drivetrain loss is more though so might not quite make it.... still looks appetizing though not worrying about emissions and having that sleeper aspect plus in a heavy car like mine tq is more important than hp

I'm interested in this info as well. I'm planning an Ls1 build and need to pass CA smog.

Sounds like a pretty good set up, I would go with a little bigger cam though since you have a 427.

if i want more power i'm going to change compression with a thicker head gasket and get a procharger.... 7 psi should be plenty... car will see road course use so too much power would be counter productive.... i want a smooth power band... the powerband on my curent setup is great, but i'm over the lumpy idle.... when my car was just a bolt on car it would break loose at 3k when i rolled off idle.. now when i do the same thing it doesnt even though i make 60 more tq and 85 more hp...

to tell u the truth, if u want to go fast, sell ur fbody and get a z06. Smog over here is getting out of hand. My friends STOCK except borla adj exhaust 02 ss went in for a star smog and they were trying to fail him on the visuals because it didn't have the carb# on a factory cats. luckly my friend went to school for smog cert and he knows his stuff and told off the smog tech.

Yes it's bad, the other day they had a check point with portable rollers to roll vehicles on and they were doing random smog check/inspection!

Stay off the main streets over here in the OC!

Yup, California's big business is "smog" check points, big time "DUI checkpoints", no calling/texting "hands free" while driving, I guess it's going to start Including eating in the car as well.

Can you just register an old beat up Civic as your car and pass smog all day then drive your "off-road" vehicle on the street? Do they allow you to tag a car that is not smog legal?

As far as I know, you have to smog a car every two years to get your tags.

Every car driven has to pass smog except old smog exempt cars.

You can register a car NON OP but if you get caught driving it they will ticket you or impound it.
