external 5.3 identification Looking at a 5.3 guy has on craigslist says its a 05 has not got back with me on head numbers but has a picture of this sticker on the back of the head is there a way to decode it?

I haven't had any luck doing so but that doesn't mean you can't. Have even tried to with a 6.2l and my contact at a dealer who is quite experienced with them. I can tell you however that the 4.8's & 5.3's are embossed in the casting on the front and rear of the blocks right below the cylinder heads. They have 4.8 & 5.3 protruding outward. I hope that helps a little.
