Default 317 heads

I have a set of 6.0L 317 heads.

Had a machine shop shave .030 off the heads
they said they pressure test the heads and had to grind the exhaust valves (they put a performance cut)
I had them install Brian Tooley racing springs as well.
My bill is $400.00 is this about right?

Define "grind the valves". Did they actually grind the valves and/or cut a valve job?

I was thinking this was High. I haven't picked the heads up yet but want to know what questions I should ask why the bill is so high?

my shop charges 40$ per head any amount milled that you want....

and 20$ to install my Brian Tooley Springs...

therefore Im looking at 100$

you my friend got suckered.

Did he supply the springs as well?

if so, then 150$ was for their labor, not too far off.

Did they bead blast/clean the heads?

Some shops add this in especially if its a dirty head, without you realizing!

Did they give you an estimate at all? Usually they stick real close to that and won't do any extras without callin you first to ok it..

Ok I feel a little better now.

I picked my heads up and when I authorized them to clean up the valves I guess a miss communication and they did a complete valve job on the motor. With a 5 angle cut this was 195.00 of the $389.00

That's about what I pay for a valve job. By looking at your other post on the BTR springs it sounds like this is a good shop that does not just slap things together and rather checks, inspects, and measures. That total bill is not out of line.

That's more like it. Fair price for the valve job included as well.
