Default well i talked to the tuner today

he seems to think that it is because I have my mass air meter coupled directly to the tb, and then a filter on the end of it. and the more I think about it I think that may just be the case. im gonna order up a cai kit and get some pipe between the mass and tb blades. he basically said with it that close the mass is miss reading and the computer is pulling about 22% of the fuel and timing out to compensate wich would cause the issue. guess ill get a kit and see if that solves it...

Well its no kit and honestly i new it probably was not a good idea. In stock form it was not noticable but with the cam it is. Im still not positive this is the problem but when the piping comes in i will update. As of now i have a stock cable tb for a lq4 it does have the tube that runs over to the valvecover. Aslo a stock 02 lq4 mass. I basically have a short silicone copuler from the tb to mass and a large oval k&n mounted straight to the mass air sensor. The k&n was ordered from them and speced out for the amount of cfm the engine would require. Im sure since there is not enough room for the air coming out of the sensor to enter or be calculated before crashing into the tb blades. I was told it could be tuned out but it is a better choice to replumb with some length so the m a f sensor can make good readings to send to the computer to prevent lean or rich situations.

Ok so I put a Cai in it, still issues, so I unplug the mass air and it still did not change, then I notice the shop filling with white smoke that stinks ( a lot like when you try to start a diesel and it does not start) so I'm like duh bad gas after all 3 years even with stabilizer is long. So last night I pull the fuel pump and drain the tank yellower than dog pee! Change the filter wipe out the tank and put 2 gal of premium with a small dose of Lucas. Fired it up and in a few the smoke quits I let her run for about 45 min and she is pretty crisp the stumble is pretty much gone. I have had it pop through the intake a couple times when you hit it real fast but that's seemed to clear too. I'm sure it needs some run time to completely clear but it a world better. I guess the stock tune and cam did not mind the bad gas as much as the cam and tune does! Lol! Couple of questions tho is it normal to pop through the intake every know and then on a hard punch (with a cam)?l or do you think that is linked to bad gas? Also the exhaust does not smoke anymore but the fumes are strong! Is that normal considering its a jammed lq4 with headers 3" exhaust and dumps before the axle, no emissions or cats? I mean after idling a short while in the shop your eyes will water .its not a raw gas smell and there is no black smoke even when you hit the throttle.

It will very on the smell and fumes. The better your VE and MAF tables are the less correction you will get in the area of fueling. This will lessen the fumes but with no cats it will not go away. The problem with mail order tunes is they are not data logged wich is how you properly correct tables. The MAF being close to the throttle bodyis not a big enough issue to cause problems that are noticeable. During quik throttle changes your pcm references table for a short period of time until the MAF can respond. You probably have some other issues maybe in the timing maybe in the mechanical area. All of the arguing about learn / adjust doesn't do you any good. Get to a person near you that can help. If you can't, good luck and all the knowledge you gain from this can never be taken from you so yoh win in the end.
