Default Those with over 450RWHP Chime in

I have a 2000 LS1/T56 Pullout. My goal is 450 to the rear wheels through a T56 in my 1991 Z28.

I want to rebuild the entire engine before I install it. There are so many options to go with, it's overwhelming so I need some opinions/input.

So can those of you with at least 450 at the rear wheels post a specific list of your mods?

What do I need for 450 at the wheels?

With the mods in my sig, i'm sitting right around 450 rwhp n/a, and around 550 rwhp on a 100 shot.

You can get there witht the 5.7 with a nice set of heads, a decent sized cam and an intake/valvetrain to match. My best advice would be to have one specific person spec out the heads, valvetrain, cam and intake setup for you. Too many times people mix and match parts chasing a number or ET and don't get there. Guys like Ed Curtis and Martin Smallwood would be good guys to talk to about what parts will get you there. There are lots of sponsors on here that could help you too, like Texas Speed, Vengeance Racing, Speed Inc., etc. I have not dealt with them personnaly, but have with Ed Curtis and Martin. Both great guys who know a ton and can get you where you want to go.

I see you're also in Atlanta, so you have two great LSx shops in your backyard if you're looking for someone to do the work.

Josh with Spartan Performance in Winder does great work and could help you with the right combo.

Vengeance Racing in Cumming is also great to work with. If you're looking for a proven off-the-shelf (although well-matched) combo that will get you to 450 rwhp, give them a call. Their Trick Flow head and VRX4 or VRX5 cam package should get you there as long as you have supporting mods (intake, full exhaust, etc.).

Personally, I went with a budget build and got to 440 rwhp NA (408 rwtq). Cheap heads, custom grind cam, ported FAST 92 and full bolt ons with comfortable street manners. Put together an awesome nitrous setup with the cash I saved going with budget heads. I have little doubt there's 10 rwhp on the table with my setup if I ponied up for a better head (TFS, AFR, etc.). If I had it to do over again, I'd probably just spend the cash on better heads.

Your budget will play a factor into hitting that number too. With that said, what is your budget? Remember, you'll need a spot on tune once all of this is said and done. Are you going to do the install yourself, or are you going to have a shop do it?

how many miles on the engine in question ? if low ,leave the short block alone .you could have your heads ported ,and get a big cam .or buy some good after market heads .the Texas Speed prc 225 cast head is good ,it uses stock rocker arms .also consider the trick flow 220 head .get a custom cam from Tick performance ,or EPS .you will need a fast 92 or 102 intake .also consider stroker your current ls1 block to a ls383 .

230s cam, fast intake, and 5.3 heads will get you there. compression and quench is your friend when configuring the shortblock.

Get with one of the sponsors to spec you a package! Easiest way so you're not mis matching parts. 450 shouldn't be an issue with a good set of head matching cam and a fast intake. Hope you got some $$$ to burn.

Don't waste your time trying to get there NA with a 346. You can but it'll cost you as much or more to do it NA than if you just go FI. With FI you have much more room to grow as well.

What?

Aftermarket heads (used via here) Fast setup, and a cam... The regulars- springs, pushrods, chain, oil pump, wires, plugs, gaskets...

What am I missing here? 450 is a cakewalk, and easily achieved.

I agree with Dave. Properly matched heads/cam/intake and valvetrain setup will get you there. OP, don't worry about shooting for a number, because there isn't a person on the face of the earth that can feel the difference between 440 rwhp and 450 rwhp. If it's numbers you want, take your car to the highest reading dyno in the USA, print out your dyno sheet, hang it on your wall and admire it all you want. Don't get so hell bent on chasing a number; just build something that you can have fun in on the street and at the track. I've seen people post up dyno sheets where they make 450+ rwhp and get their *** handed to them by a car that dyno'd way less.

If your going to spend all that money why not leave it bone stock and put a small turbo on it. 450hp is nothing with a little boost. Could be done cheaper than a 450hp NA setup IMO.
