How are cam bearings installed?

You need to use a cam bearing install tool to pull them in from the front or back of the block depending on which bearing you are talking about. If you look at the block, one side of the bearing positions is chamfered to allow the bearing to be started and pulled in.

You will see several sized inserts that fit inside the cam bearings and pull them in.

you can do it with 1" wooden dowel if you are desperate and VERY careful (I did it on a 400ci SBC once....ran it over 60,000 miles with those bearing in it)....this IS NOT the reccomended way but if yer cheap and desperate...........
