Default scarred cylinder wall advice please

Hello, i pulled the heads on my lq4, and found a scar on the cylinder wall. Should i run it, or tear the engine down and see if it will hone out? A little history on the engine, i bought it from a junkyard about a year ago, and i used it in my offroad truck for about a year. The engine ran fantastic, and i had no issues with blow by, oil consumption, or smoking. From the picture of the rocker valley, i believe it was very well taken care of.

Here is a picture of the mark, its about one inch down from the top of the cylinder. Most of whats visible, you can not feel. On one side of the mark, i can feel a rough texture. It doesnt grab my finger nail

You should be okay, I've seen much worse, if you feel boost is going to be in your future a rebuild may be a good idea.

If you have already ran it with success then you should be fine..

If it was going to be a problem it would have showed up by now

Get it machined. What's the measurements of the gauge.

bring the piston to BDC and run a quick hone through it. it might take that mark right out

You could always do a crude leakdown test and throw a set of eBay headgaskets in while it's out of the car

If it doesn't catch your fingernail, don't worry about it, I would leave it if it ran fine before.

Thanks for responses. Im leaning towards running it. I don't think I would feel good about honing with the piston still in.

I don't have a bore gauge to measure with.

could always pull that piston since your already there and run a ball hone through the cyl. I do it to all my JY engines before running them hard. Also you'd be surprised how much carbon and crap work their way into the ringlands. If you have it down that far... whats 2 bolts for a little clean up?
