shifting at 7000 RPM's
shifting at 7000 RPM's I have a friend that shifts his stock bottom end H/C Z06 at 7000-7100 RPM's every time he races. The bottom end is completly stock and he makes good power all the way to 7000. He made peak power at like 6600 and was at 425 RWHP. Who else does this, and how long will his motor last? Do you thing this is a disaster in the near future?

Yes, it is a disaster waiting to happen. These engines are not designed to turn that kind of RPM. He will eventually have a stretched or broken rod bolt and he will destroy the entire engine. It may last for a while, but it will let go. I've seen the results a number of times.

I already knew this info but needed some other people's oponion's so I can show this post to him.
The shitty thing about the 7000 shif is the fact that he is shifting on his stock tach.
He made 360 stock and now has 425, that tach from the factory has to be behind and he is probally acturally shifting at 7200.

Probably higher than 7200. The bus for the tach has a really low priority and can be really off at WOT. Especially considering that if he thinks he's shifting at 7k, he's probably getting it completed at 7250...so, more like 7500 in the real world.

or is he THINKING or GUESSING he is shifting at 7K? i agree with the above, no way will that motor live long. the net is full of guys that brag and tell half truths. there are guys that turn 7K but take it to the track a few times a year. and there are guys that dont talk about rebuilds. lets please remember these are PRODUCTION GENERAL MOTORS pieces! the same company that makes a lot of junk. they are NOT race motors though they make the power of many racemotors.

Whether it is safe or not, I don't see the need to ever spin mine beyond stock or maybe 6400. The extra .005 picked up isn't worth the risk to my motor. My power peaks at 5950 and then begins to fall off. No reason to spin the **** out of it.
My rev limiter is set at 6900 it pulls all the way until redline. I shift off the stock tach around 6700 or so. No problems so far......Stock rodbolts. We'll see how long it holds up. Honestly with an Ls6 I dont think he has anything to worry about.

You are going to have 10,000 different opinions on this board about this. Whether the stock internals will handle shifting at 7,000, I say not for very long...many people will say there car pulls all the way to 7,000, lets dyno the car and see...I bet the cars peaks alot sooner than that. I just think its not necessary to stress the engine for a few hundred rpm's that are not even helping you. Tell him, if he wants to rev that high, but a Acura RSX... 
Ok, here is my graph. Where do you think I should shift at then? Just curious! I know anything over 7000 can't be good, but it shows on the track numbers. Thanks

On the dyno the car pulled nasty until 7000+ RPM's. Lost less then 10 for 6600 to 7150 where he let off. Thanks everyone for the oponion's.
And to the SS Camaro this Z06 made peak power where you shif at, therefore it would be stupid for him to shift at 6600.
Big difference there.
