P0101 code help please
Hi Community,
Hope this is in the right section, I am a complete newb to this forum.
Anyways here goes:
I did a 5.3l (2004) swap in my Toyota landcruiser -Love it. Have about 25k miles on the swap. In the last 2-3k miles, I keep getting a p0101 code and a CEL. Here are the details as far as I can tell:
Runs/idles fine, accelerates great (has very minor stumble around 1400 rpm when holding gas pedal steady. I havnt figured it out -think its related to either pedal/tak or PCM tune). No other codes. Engine is completely stock save a CAI. Has Delphi MAF, cleaned recently with no change in code/CEL.
I clear the code and notice it will only come back when the PCM goes from "not ready" to "ready" on my Scan Gauge II. (I am assuming this is the emissions rediness monitors...)
What do you guys think? Where to start on this code?
Thanks alot in advance.
D.

Simple web search for that code brings up
Mass or volume air flow circuit range/performance
Possible causes
Faulty mass air flow sensor
- Intake air leaks
- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor circuit poor electrical connection
PS I could be wrong but CEL is short for "Check Engine Light" I don't think I've seen that come up on a scan though.

If this was a 5.3 thatn was in the original truck with now mods..
9 out of 10 times cleaning the maf with keep the code away ..a little brake clean and scrap the dirt ***** off the wire and would be good to go ... The 10th needs a maf replacement to eliminate the code returning ....
Running rough or any type of pop/back fire thru the intake will trip a p0101...
But you would most likely have other codes if that was the issue....
Clean it and see what happens

Ok,
Cleaned the **** out of the MAF as advised, also checked for vacuum leaks, also sprayed carb spray all the way around intake manifold. Could not find any vacuum leaks. Checked all intake connections, everything is super tight. MAF electrical connection is CLEAN. and wiring is well routed away from all other electronics.
Cleared code. It came back... dammit.
I am noticing it takes a few extra cranks to start sometimes lately, also not running perfect (kind of low on power).
You guys think its the MAF sensor?? Its less than 3 years old.. Any way to test it first?
Thanks again.
