Default budget build. L92 iron or ?

Ok. I acquired a LQ4. It's got high miles. It's an old Iron headed 6.0. I have arp rod bolts from my old LS1 and a crank. I also have a blown L33 short block.

I was thinking, the crank and rods from the L33 (since theyre floating) with the ARP bolts. Then either getting flat tops, or boring to 4.065 and run LS3/L92 slugs. It's going in my DD. I'd like maybe 450ish wheel. It's in a 2wd Yukon, with a lil weight reduction, so maybe 5200.

I'll build it one piece at a time. My other question, is cathedral or square ports? How would 243s with some work done be on a 6.2? I know alot of people say the Square ports, you lose bottom end. I'll of course stall it and a cam. I have 3.73s. Just looking for opinions from the gurus and getting knowledge on what will work. I'd really love to maybe hit them 12s.

If you're shooting for 450rwhp, and it's going into a relatively heavy vehicle, I'd go with 799s or 243s over an LS3 head. Port velocity is alot higher with the cathedral heads and will give you the low RPM grunt you'll want (plus they'll breathe into the higher RPMs just fine). Just my .02.

Okay. Maybe 450 might be a bit of a stretch for N/A. My main goal is to hit 12s.

You may want to do some research on the older 6.0 blocks with iron heads. My understanding is the crank is a bit longer and has an issue mounting up to certain transmissions.

I went with the 4.065" bore when I built mine. I used the LS1 crank with LS3 rods and pistons. It will need to be balanced, as mine need a slug of heavy metal.

As for Rectangle vs Cathedral ports, it's been beaten to death. Everyone has their own opinion based on what their experiences are. My experience tells me that the cathedral ports make better power in the range that a street car usually spends its time. However, as the displacement and/or RPM increases, it's harder to feed the engine with the cathedral port heads, so the rectangle port heads look better and better.

You should be able to turn 12s with either head. My buddie has a lq9 combo in his car but it runs low 11s with a futral spec cam with ls3 heads and a L76 intake. His car is a M6 car tho.

Crank is .400" longer at the flange.
