Rods and pistons
Yes, you will need to get your assembly balanced. And in doing so, you would likely want to look at the Clevite P series Rod Bearings and P series Main Bearings as they are quite a bit more durable than the stock rod and main bearings. The H series is normally only for aftermarket cranks.
Then as far as pistons and rings go, we normally recommend Mahle. You can get nearly and CR and a very high quality piston without breaking the bank. The file fit rings come with the piston set, as well as the pins and locks. The pistons are double coated and have a very good design on their skirt coating. There are quite a few diff part numbers for those, so let us know your target CR and possible overbore size and we can work that up. After that, you would have a very sturdy foundation to build from.
But if you wanted to go back with the stock Hyper-E pistons, we also carry a wide variety of the Speed Pro pistons in the 6.0. They have a relatively new option with a thermal barrier top coating that works very well and their skirts are coated also. They do have some less expensive forged piston sets as well, but depending on the amount of boost you want to run, may not be the material for you.
