How do you know the cam is toast?

And even if it is I wouldn't waste my time/effort on swapping in a z06 cam.

Um because of the lobes being scorched and the lifter have marks on them
Just was wondering if putting a cam that would work with everything without being a headache. Just figured I can do the cam it's $40 bucks more then the stocker.

Do you have really high mileage or a reason that would cause that kind of excessive wear on the cam and lifters?

Bad oil pressure?

I got the truck used with 86k miles. just a couple weeks ago I noticed oil lvl dropped from 40-42 hot down to 37ish just started making the noise last week and we pulled the engine, after checking rockers and stuff pulled pan had some metal in it I was thinking a spun rod until we pulled heads and saw the lifters bearings are fine everything looks okay except cam and lifters.
So who knows how truck was with original owner.

I would first be really concerned with what "toasted" your stock cam.
Others can chime in, but I personally have never seen one that bad without a major oiling problem.

It's not really that uncommon. I personally think it starts out with either the lifter roller sticking or the lifter twisting slightly in the retainer. Of course it could be the heat treating of the cam.

I was just thinking how can putting a zo6 cam in be worse then stock I do know a guy with a
06 pickup with a 6.0 did a swap z06 cam lifters and springs and he loves it.
So I was just seeing what others thoughts were on doing it since engine is out and right there.
