Picked up a 5.3 out of a 2000 trk, don't have nothing in it. Also got a 2000 6.0 around the same time. I stuck the 5.3 in a corner, never really looked at it. tonight me and a friend were looking at the 6.0 talking about the long crank in those engines, then we went in and looked at the 5.3 and it is a short crank. I know for a fact it came out of a friend's 2000 trk that he had for several yrs. Why is this a short crank, my understanding was that all 5.3 and 6.0's, 99 and 2000 had the long crank.

 

Check the crank casting number it sounds like a 4.8L

I thought about that. Wasn't for sure if the 4.8's had the long crank or not. Had it traded for a set of 317 heads to, so that sucks. Plus I pulled a valve cover this morning and it's had coolant in the oil. May pull it down and see what is salvageable. Did the 4.8's have the 862 heads? Didn't really look while I was out there. Thanks for the replies.
