Lifter bore clearance!: I chased my poor oiling problem (at the rockers) on a freshly-machined/built 331 for months. One day I finally stumbled on a post about too much lifter-bore/lifter clearance, and I found a stock replacement lifter from Comp Cams that advertized it was .001" larger. I ordered ONE – put it in the “front of the line” of the oil galley feed, and lo and behold, angelic music rang in my ears! Probably twice the amount of oil came-up through the pushrod compared to the stock lifter. Apparently the lifter-bore hone at the machine shop took-off just enough. Ordered the entire set of +.001 lifters… problem solved.
