Need help selecting a cam Hello, just about to start my build on my 01 Base Corvette auto. Just picked up the car, now time to build it 
So far the car has long tube headers, full exhaust with no cats or O2 sensors(will be putting a couple of O2's in) Just picked up a set of machined 241 heads, this is the sellers description -
""This auction is for a set of LSX heads. They are off of a 2002 Camaro and are assembled with Blue Stripe comp 918's with 3000 miles on them.
The heads were milled .030 (62cc), 2002 intake valves (2.00) and 1998 1.60 exhaust valves with a lot of bowl work and blending. The runners are unported. Flows roughly 255-260 cfm at .600 lift which is more than a stock LS6 head!
Unfortunately, I do not have a flow sheet. These are sold as is, no refunds and what you see is what you get. With a decent cam, supporting bolt ons and a tune your LS car should be well over 400rwhp without a doubt.""
~Also ordered a breathless cold air vortech intake. I do plan on getting a intake manifold, not sure what to get?? And just need help selecting a cam shaft for this if anyone can help! Thanks in advanced.
*Trying to do this build on a tight budget, would like to keep the 918 blue stripe springs for budget reasons. Really looking to keep the motor reliable, with a usable power range for street. Would like to have a low choppy idle(if possible), it is a automatic, with stock torque converter. Trying to get over 400hp to keep up/beat my dads 2010 Grand Sport Corvette.

Talked to the guy sold me the heads, he said they where machined to go with a 236/236 cam, but he does not know any more specifics. But what's the down fall of leaving the original torque converter? I always thought the stall was just a mater of what rpm the drive line hooked up.
Also I have the opportunity to buy a Cometic multi layer head gaskets with .051" thickness. Would this work well with my build?

Don't buy the cometic .051". You can buy stock MLS head gaskets in the same thickness. The problem with throwing a cam at it without a converter swap is, unless you get that thing to idle low enough it is going to want to pull through the brakes at every stop. I'm not saying it can't be done, but I just don't see the point. You will be leaving a ton of potetial on the table if you use your stock converter.

Yeah I could always do the torque converter later, when i can afford to pick one up. And yeah I'll pass on that head gasket then. Still need to pick out a cam if anyone has any thoughts on what I should get?

to tell ya the honest truth man any cam you can do with a stock stall is not going to be worth or take out an ls3 vette. A stall will help the motor get into the higher rpms much faster and keep it there on the upshifts. Without a stall throwing in any decent cam will actually make the car a tad slower on the low end. My suggestion is do with a budget stall if money is an issue in the 3200 range and then select a cam int he 228/230 range with a 112 lsa. Even then I dont think you will hit the 400whp mark without heads as autos arent dyno queens.

Well I guess I'll make the room in my budget for the torque converter. Will any 4L60e torque converter fit a 01 corvette considering the rear mounted transmission? And recommendations on stall rpm around 3200?
With a .030 mill, there is not going to be enough PTV clearance with any more than 218 intake duration cam installed at 110*, without fly cutting. I wouldn't use those heads. A much better plan is to use a ported 5.3 head with a .040 cometic head gasket. Also milling .030 hurts the head airflow.

No lol you need a converter made for a c5 or an lt1 fbody the ls1 is different between the 2. and yes depending on the cam a 3200 would be fine

Thanks for the advice everyone. I called the guys at Texas speed, they hooked my up with a .581 lift 112, 224/224 cam, and everything else I need to get the engine back together. Also called monster transmission where they got me a 2800 stall torque converter for the vette. Between everything ended up a few hundred over budget, so I won't be able to get an intake manifold, just yet anyhow. How much power do you guys think I can get out of this set up?
If the heads really do flow the same as stock 243 heads, I would think about 385-405rwhp. My old setup was an LS1 with stock 799 heads (same as 243), LS6 intake, ported stock throttle body, 228/230 571"/573" 112lsa with pacesetter headers and an x pipe. It made 393 to the rear. Are you doing anything to the exhaust?

Nice that's great power! I just want to make this thing get a 0-60 around 4.0-4.3sec and a low 12 1/4 mile. But yeah the exhaust has long tube headers, no cats, and dual till the high flow muffler.
