valve spring shenanigans
hi
i bought a set of "open box" GMPP blue springs on ebay. took them to the machine shop and they are exactly the same (pressure wise) as the stock lq4 valve springs that were in my stock 317 heads. my stock springs had a blue stripe on the bottom two coils. they both had an open pressure of 293@1.200
anyone know for sure what the lq4 springs are rated at for open pressure (1.200/1.250)?
thanks!

Yeah, the guys at Flyin' Miata discovered the same thing with their Targa Newfoundland car. Just because they're blue.....
A few months back I got a good deal on some blue LS6 springs, thinking they were a higher spring rate. When I tested them, they're the stock LS1 spring rate. Still a good spring for a mild to moderate street car, though. As long as you're not bouncing off the rev limiter every lap, or using a high lift cam, they'll be fine.
But, I'm building a track car that's going to see 6,500+rpm's pretty often. I picked up a better set of PAC beehives on a recent group buy.
Anybody want to buy a brand new set of magic blue springs?
