Review of Tick Performance Camshaft I recently replaced my old cam with a custom grind that Martin from Tick came up with.
FYI, I found Martin to be well versed in both camshaft lobe and event selection. As a bonus, he was equally concerned about valve-train setup. The best cam will suck without a valve-train to back it up, so a few mods done there too, all his ideas. Some BTR parts in there also.
In any case, I made 3 passes so far on his cam. The first two I didn't get a very good tire warmup. On the 3rd run, I got all the way down the backside.
Nothing to write home about, as goals not met yet, but for my car and driver (me) this was very good data and new PBs for both 1/8 MPH and 1/4 ET.
Fast or slow, this happened after adding the cam.
1.60 60ft (slower than normal; tires are gone)
1/8 MPH: 118.6 MPH 1/8 mile
1/4 ET: 9.75

I am more of a MPH type, though 9.75 out of a 6 spd that can be repeated is really fun to drive. I know a lot of you guys run really good numbers, but the relative difference here is what is important. Old cam -> new cam = faster.
So, safe to say I am very happy w/the new cam. As a result, I hope to
reach my goals of < 9.5 and 150 MPH passes.
BTW, hp and et/mph, are just numbers. As for feel of how the car runs. The old cam was a hard hitter right out of the box, but would lay over at 6600rpm. This one stretched the hp out, not beating the old cam by much at 6600, but 15rwhp (n/a) at 6900rpm. Below that added around 10rwhp through the curve. The performance came from that the fact that now I shift at 7200 vs 7000rpm. More piston speed and breathing= good.
The new cam and valve train has a very smooth feel to it and the power is very deceptive.
Anyway, there ya go.
