Default Which lifters should I choose

Have an assembled Lq4 shortblock (diamond pistons, eagle rods) just ordered a brute speed blower cam last night as I plan to go forced induction of some sort down the road. I need lifters now. I've read both good and bad about LS7 lifters, these were originally what I intended on using but I'm not so sure now. I do plan on zinging this thing pretty high and cannot afford to build another motor, I want to do this once and do it correctly. What have you used that has worked and proven reliable???

I have a relatively mild build, and if lifters could be changed out easily like pushrods, rockers, and valve springs I might have tried the LS7 lifters. I went with Morels because I don't like pulling heads. They have been quiet and reliable albeit for only 10k miles so far.

That's pretty much where I'm at as well. I was looking at the 5206's, which ones are you using and where did you buy them?

I have the 5206 with the link bars. I don't recall the vendor - I had to look around because they were in short supply at that time.

Cool deal, thank you. And because I'm an idiot and forgot to ask earlier..these eliminated the need for the lifter tray as well, correct?

We sell the morel 5206's.
here they are 5206

But MAYBE you were talking about the 5290s
Here they are 5290

Both are link bar. Both are Morel. The 5206 has the morel machined body and the .750 exposed roller. The 5290 has the cast body and the .700 shrouded (stock style) roller.
We have both of them ready to go.

When moving to a link bar set up is it just a drop in replacement or does it affect other things in the valve train?

Most of them are a drop in replacement. There are some of the more expensive ones that are short travel, but I can give you a recommendation on any setup you need.

They are drop in and eliminate the need for lifter trays as already discussed. The Morels however, do have a more narrow window for preload - 0.030 to 0.050 inch. This means you pretty much have to measure with an adjustable pushrod and you may have to order a particular pushrod length if the length you need is not one of the standard-issue lengths.

Well I'm giving the Johnson Slow Leak Down lifters a try. My cam has pretty stable lobes but a good deal of lift and I didn't want to leave it up to chance.

I have set the "street" tie bars at .060 and never had problems. I will try to get more info from them on the total preload avail in the lifter. Some of the lifters are a short travel and do need very close attention, but those also need 5w20 motor oil as well. But those are not the common Morels that people buy.

The "0.030 to 0.050" specification is what I was provided with my Morel lifters at the time of purchase (2010) - I don't claim to know the spec Morels street or other lifters, which I assume you do.

Morel does not send any info with their lifters. They come in a foam enclosed plastic case. That is it. Where did you get the preload info from?

I got that spec either from Mike Schmidt at Total Engine Airflow or Patrick G who were advisors on my build. The 0.030-050 inch spec was consistent with postings from reliable source at that time, e.g. https://ls1tech.com/forums/12826668-post7.html

Good info then. The last part about John C telling him it was ok though kinda leaves it open.

Btr slr lifters is what I'm go try. They are an upgrade over the ls7 lifters and only 60 bucks more. 200 bucks for lifters isn't go hurt your pocket as bad as morels

Maybe you havent checked out our morels? They are $186 retail and are on GP for $165.
Not all morels are tie bars. They do make a drop in. We've got em too.

Here is the link for them.
