Default my new set up

So I am looking at getting an Allan Futral camshaft specifically the F7 (here are the specs on it..224"/230" .588"/.595" 114LSA ). Am going to pair this with a set of 241 heads. I already have LTs, ORY, BBK intake and TB, intake lid, smooth bellow, and fast toys ram air.

Please input on any thoughts or other ideas you may have on these set up.

EDIT: the car will be sprayed with at least a 200 shot

If I remeber right I have 853s on there. The 241's I have now I am going to get CNC port/polish new springs, etc etc

EDIT: Ok so I guess i do have 241 heads...never realized they were pretty much the same head...still learning on this car.

What's your reason for choosing this cam other than for spraying a +200 shot?

Lol that's how we learn I take it this is not a daily driver? If so, and it were me, i'd go with a slightly bigger cam since you're getting the heads worked over

haha yes it is how we learn, have had the car for about 2 years now and finally got a second car. No, the car is no longer a daily driver as of about 2 weeks ago The car will be a car to bring out here and there on the weekend and the drag strip.

HCI2000SS: How much bigger woould you suggest? Not wanting to have to fly cut or anything. Open to any suggestions as I am not ordering a cam until I am for certain on one.

99Bluz28: the reason for the cam is of course the 200+ shot, as well everything I have read on this cam has been great and no real issues with it, as well as have seen some great numbers put up with the cam.

Okay, well since it not a DD, I'd definitely go bigger. Something along the lines of a 228/234 113lsa +4,
I'd contact Allan at Futral , and Kip at CamMotion and see what they would recommend.

The cam 99Bluz28 reccommended is pretty good! Maybe even a Torquer V2. You might want to try Tick Performance for specific cam info...they seem to be prefered here on the forumn. BTW, will you be spraying the 200 shot on the stock bottom end, and the stock 10 bolt?

Ok I will definately work on contacting them and look at going bigger!! Thanks you for the advice!

It is a 10 bolt rear end...I know I know its on the list to get changed out soon! I know it can be hit or miss with that rear end but mainly miss. The bottom I got a ported ls6 oil pump and LS2 timing chain. Or rather that is what is suppose to be there with "upgraded" pistons and rods. Thats what the guy said when I bought the car, but never had it torn down to actually see. So will find out here soon.

I am not in a huge rush or anything to get the motor done so as things come up that I noticed need replaced or what have you or "beefed" up it will be thrown into the build.

Gotcha! Just don't go with super sticky tires in the meantime and the 10 bolt may possibly survive a while lol

Ok so after talking with CamMotion and Tick performance....couldn't get hold of Allan @ Futral, i think I have made a different decision on the cam. Looking at going with CamMotion speced me out a cam 232/240 .595/.578 112 LSA 108 intake centerline. The Tick performance specs were almost identical just a hair smaller.

Now that cam sounds more like it I thought maybe you wanted something more mild based on what you described in your first post, but IMO this cam will be much more fun

haha yea after talking with CamMotion and thinking about it more, I realized how much I won't be driving on the streets and how much I will be driving on the Drag strip. I agree I'm excited to get the cam! now to get to work on the heads. Got them bare cleaning them tomorrow and take them to the shop! Just have to get the rockers and lifters.

Ok so one last question...I'm neding a little help making sure I get this right. (First head/cam swap I've doen on a LS motor. I was wanting to get beehive springs seems how those are good for up .600 lift(just wasn't sure on brand), rockers kinda at a stand still on :? (the cam was speced for 1.7:1 ratio rockers though, but that can be changed if need be), and LS7 lifters (that seems to be what a lot of people run with no complaints).

I'd go with stock rockers w/trunion upgrade.
For beehive single valve springs a set of PAC-1211X(about$200), and you can reuse the stock retainers, or if your budget permits a set of light weight tool steel (Comp Cams #1772-17, $150-$160) or titanium (about +$90 ) retainers.

Yeah, you'll probably get a bunch of suggestions to run dual valve springs, and if you were going to run with more aggressive cam lobes I would be one of them, but seeing that you'll be running fairly mild cam lobes the beehive/single springs I suggested will be plenty good and knock a little weight off the valve train, and even more with the lightweight retainers!
