Default Need some vendors help in choosing a cam package

I'm in the market to do a cam swap this spring on my 2001 Trans Am that has

detuned for just street driving using hp tuners. I currently have stock cam,

heads and block. My upgrades are as follows LS6 intake, kooks Longtubes with

a catted Y-pipe and cutout, slp lid with kn air filter, 3200 stall, stock 2:73s in

the rear. I don't expect my engine to last forever but i want to do a cam and

springs package in order to get some more power out of it for cheaper than a

H/C package. I know there are different opinions for what streetable is but i

dont mind going a little bigger as long as it will net the most gains out of my

current setup.

In order to use a decent cam you will def need better rear gear. We can spec you out one that will work, but that 2:73 cam is going to hurt your choices quite a bit. The stall will help, but if you get too aggressive on the cam, you will still have issues with surging and possible problems with it feeling low on power and bad mpg.

We can set you up, just give us a shout!

With a 3200 stall and 2.73 rear gear you do not want to go to big as COspeed mentioned.

As he mentioned, surging, feeling sluggish and most importantly getting left behind from the get go by your buddies with "more optimal" rear gears and higher stalls won't be any fun.

I would suggest our Stage 1 LS1/LS6 Street Heat camshaft. It is 225/228 .612/.571 112+3. I would pair this with a set of BTR Platinum springs with Ti retainers and hardened chromoly push rods 5/16" diameter .080" wall minimum.

Another cam worth looking into that we offer is our LS1/LS6 TorqueMAX camshaft. It is 223/227 .610/.614 111+2. The Street Heat and the TorqueMAX are extremely similar in regards to driving manners. Their power bands differ slightly though in where they start and begin to diminish.

We sell the above parts as a package for 695.00 shipped. Please let me know if I can be of further help!

the gears should be replaced and I agree. But the car has the stock 10 bolt and Im going to wait till that gives out before i look towards changing gears. And as of right now my problem is getting what power i already have to the ground gonna get me some sticky tires and go from there

I would personally stay in the low to mid 220 degree duration range with a 3200 stall and 2.73 gears.

Even with a planned upgrade to a more optimal rear gear ratio, I'd still keep the duration in that range.

The absolute biggest cam I would run would be a 229/232 .615/.575 113+3. This is our advertised as our LS2 Street Heat Stage 1 camshaft.

If it has a bit wider lsa the powerband will be alot more useable and the tq will be there sooner. Cut the lsa down and itll peak early and prob be more like a firecracker.

The main problem you have is the gear ratio. And that 3200 stall. If you launch it, youll have to make sure it takes up all of that stall otherwise itll fizzle out.
