Need advice on LS6 clearances: Bent Valves
I have searched endlessly and have not been able to find an answer to my question. Replaced the LS1 in my car with an 04 LS6 block and stock 243 heads off a 05 GTO. Ordered the same cam I had before from Vengeance Racing (VRX5). However vengeance has increased the duration specs a little (now .601/.605 236/238 113 lsa insead of 232/236). I used stock .051 head gaskets, stock length hardened pushrods, and dual valve springs with my stock rockers. Made 4 pulls with my tuner (redline set at 6900) and about 50 miles later the car started acting up with reduced power so i got it towed. MAF failed (which i assumed was the issue for it running like ****) but when the valve covers were pulled i had one broken valve spring and a bent valve. So pulled the heads and discovered all the valves were bent and had touched the pistons. Car ran great while tuning and started acting up cruising on the highway. Is this too much duration for the stock specs?? I'm assuming the clearance issue is occurring with the valves floating when touching the rev limiter. Should I go up a size in head gaskets to be safe? Thanks in advance for any advice
Sorry to hear about your issues. Our VRX5 has always been a 236/238 @ .050... That being said, we have verified ptv NUMEROUS times on many applications with no issue.. Our Vindicator is a 240/244 duration @.050 and it clears, although it is tight.
My money is on the springs floating excessively.
