Default Help me get started with Heads & Cam + Top End

Hey guys,
I've read the beginner FAQs and stuff, but I need a little bit of direction so I can start researching what exactly I want to do. This is hopefully going to be my summer project. When I think of doing heads & cam, I have wet dreams about:

That's a C5 Z06 with an MTI X1 cam and other modifications. I've been told that's way too aggressive for what I want.

All my mods so far are in my sig.
Considering that it's an old engine now, I'm looking to also replace (or maybe lightly upgrade) the top end of the engine (which I'm defining as everything but crank and pistons). So, I'm talking rods, lifters, valves, springs, seals, etc.

Though this car is no longer a daily driver, I don't want a race car. I want a powerful yet streetable car where I could even do a couple hundred mile cruise with the T-tops off and not be stressed about the engine dying or something. It probably only sees like 1000-2000 miles a year give or take.

Without knowing what 400 or 500 hp or tq really feels like, it's hard to say, but I guess I'd like to be in the mid 400s+ RWHP. I probably take it to a drag strip maybe once or twice a year at most. Also, I'm planning to keep it NA - but if I went pro/supercharger, would that affect things? As much as I'd like a turbo, I'm not going that route.

Budget wise, I'm thinking of keeping it in the $4000 ballpark, but especially since I'm also considering all the engine component replacements, I'm assuming it's going to go up...I would like to keep it below $5K if i can.

So...any suggestions...especially on the heads & cam part?

I would go with this:

http://www.texas-speed.com/p-1161-pr...m-package.aspx

and the Torquer 3 cam, its been proven many times over and is nothing new but it will get you a nice boost in power. Factor in money for a GOOD tune.

If you wanted to be conservative you could do the 228 cam. I have the 224 and feel like its just a little too small but I would drive my car anywhere, with ac.

A cam much like our Street Heat Stage 2 (231/238 .617/.585 113+3) as part of our https://ls1tech.com/forums/sponsor-s...m-package.html would be a great combination in a Corvette.
