Default 243 Heads Question

So I am in the process of pulling off my 241 heads because some idiot who owned the car before me broke off a manifold bolt in the head. This is leading me to the option of buying some 243 heads since I'm already pulling them and how convenient it is that there are some 2003 Corvette 243 heads on CL.

I am curious to know if these will directly fit or not. I know they will work with the stock cam, but is anything else different?

Also, if I decide to buy these, who should I send them in to port&polish them?

These will drop right in without any modifications needed.

As stated, no mods needed to run them. Wouldn't hurt to have a reputable shop give them a good "once over" if you will, before bolting them on.

I would only really do this if I planned to have them worked over, otherwise it's not worth the hassle IMO

He's pulling the heads anyways. They will still be an upgrade over the stock heads.

I did this just not too long ago and did heads only on my car (stock cam) because of emissions and stock tune. Mine are 779 heads (same as 243) but are ported and upgraded springs/push rods. I paid for labor so may not have been worth it but the worked heads DO make a difference . Lower RPM they are about the same as stock heads but as you get up to speed they do make a difference and at top end and keep on going even with a stock tune and stock cam. It is kind of a sleeper as it hauls when I stomp on it. Not as good as heads and cam, but pretty good for a stock car.

Since you are doing the install yourself I would get them worked if you can afford it. Do the push rods while your in there. That's my .02.

Yeah no doubt, but if it were me i'd still want to get them ported and polished since i'd be going to all the hassle. I mean what's a stock 243 to a 241...maybe 15-20 hp or so? I'd rather get more like 40-50 hp myself

So you picked up 5hp going from stock 241's to stock 243's? What were the rest of your mods at the time?

Winter or summer fuel? (Pretty big difference)

Same day?

Same air?

See what I mean. Dynos are just tuning tools. The track is the real test. We all know this.

Default Broken bolt

Unrelated to your question I had the same prob with a broken manifold bolt. Mine was on cylinder 1. After I inspected it i noticed only the head of the bolt broke off and it still had about 1/2 in sticking out after I removed the manifold. With alot of patience, PB blaster and vice grips I was able to get it off.

Mine was on cylinder one too, but I wasn't as lucky. I did end up getting the broken bolt out, but we had to pull the whole head to get to it, and surprisingly, an easy out was what worked out for us. Either way, I got it back on, everything runs, along with my new headers, so I'm satisfied
