Default performance upgrades

I have a 2001 Yukon Denali XL with a 6.0 and I am wondering what the best performance mods are that will give me the best all around results. I'm not looking to create huge hp gains but would like to see better torque, gas mileage and performance. I pull a small lightweight trailer and at highway speeds and around 2000 rpm I have virtually no power and a constant downshifting in the tranny with a gpm of about 8. This vehicle has 66,000 miles on it and has been well maintained. Any input on proven mods would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
karlr

I would look at getting a good set of heads - either your existing heads reworked by Advanced Induction or Total Engine Airflow or some aftermarket as cast heads. Heads make power everywhere from idle to redline, and don't require a stall for the transmission. You would need a tune to get the most of it. I would not expect to recoup the cost with fuel savings but, I don't think other modifications would do that either.

Exhaust and intake mods will free up some power and usually increase mpg's a bit too

What gear does the truck have? My 09 Tahoe pulls my 6000lb car and trailer without any issues. Are you towing in overdrive?

My goal was to do a few mods that don't require changing any major hard parts. My thoughts were leaning towards changing the exhaust system to true duals, install a cold air intake from K&N, 1.7 ratio rocker arms, a larger mm throttle body, under drive pulleys and an electric fan. the final mod would be to buy a programmer and take the truck to get it dyno tuned and have the shift points reset. With that being said, what are the opinions on what I may expect in hp and torque gains. The gear ratio is in the area of 372's and this is an all wheel drive setup and also has the tow/haul mode that I do use when I tow the trailer. If I go as far as replacing the intake what would be the best choice and also, what is the best tuner to purchase and is there one out there that wiould either allow me to adjust settings on the fly or have multiple programs that I can toggle between when needed for different driving conditions ? One other mod I have considered is to install a fuel injection management system. I believe Edelbrock has a tunable version but the $ 3000.00 dollar price tag has me wondering if the end result will justify the investment.

Welcome to LS1tech Karlr but

"Internal" means pistons, rods, crank, etc.

Take your question over to the https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...rnal-engine-6/ to get help & info on power adders.

Default ticking noise

Thanks for the heads up Paul. Didn't realize the error. Maybe this is a more appropriate question. When I start my truck when it is cold I notice a valve train noise that sounds like a hydraulic set up that needs adjusting. The sound goes away for the most part as the engine heats up but it is still noticeable even then. Is this normal ?? Also, are there any known internal issues with this 6.0 litre that I should be concerned about ??? As a note, I have recently switched to Penzoils premium synthetic oil hoping to eliminate this issue.

Default Wow

Don't know what this symbol means but just let your imagination run wild.... As a GM factory trained tech who specialized in drivability issues I am severely disappointed with the lack of tech feed back from this site on my query. I am very well versed in the principles of the internal combustion engine and also the theories, complexities and intricacies of engine management systems and other factors that play a part in the performance of a power plant for its intended application. Since being out of the trade trade since the late 90's I lack the experience of issues involving the 6.0 liter I was under the impression that this forum site would be chalk full of folks with specific knowledge of that 6.0 platform and what it takes to bring this beast to life. Clearly, I was wrong. Sad, very sad.....

Intake and exhaust would wake it up. Is the a LQ9 or the LQ4 6.0L ? Pretty sure the Denali go the LQ9's. How much $$$ do you want to spend on all this ?

I don't think rocker arms and throttle body will help you I'd say gears is #1 exhaust cold air

There is not a valve adjustment on your 6.0 all you can check for is to make sure your rocker arms are torqued properly if pushrod is bent something loose you can only get to the lifter under the head on these as suppose to under the intAke manifold on a older sbc. Hopefully this helps some if you want more specifics pm me or give it a little time there are usually great responses on this forum with very knowledgable people.
