just finished cam and spring swap. i finished removing my c1 hammer cam for the g5x2 cam w/comp 921's,mac headers for kook's,bauer ported t-body and bg ramair mod. for the cam install i went to home depot and bought two wooden dowel rods 5/16 and they worked great($4.00 
)the x2 cam sounds a hell of a lot different then the hammer cam 
it idles with no problems after a second and i can NOT wait to hit the strip. i almost forgot i have a new t.n.t 150 wet kit too

)the x2 cam sounds a hell of a lot different then the hammer cam it idles with no problems after a second and i can NOT wait to hit the strip. i almost forgot i have a new t.n.t 150 wet kit too looks like me and the 10's will be friends this year.(I HOPE) mike c. thats right bro. see...some people are using the jpr tool from thunder racing,the tool to hold up the lifters is $80.00. the pen mags would cost $32.00 to $50.00 depending on which ones you buy. i went to home depot and bought two wooden dowel sticks 5/16 and i cut them 6in longer then the new cam. they cost $4.00. i saved alot of money and it worked great. the dowels slid in nice,i may of been able to go one size bigger.
i guess hes saying they slide in along side the old cam before you take it out to hold the lifters up? Am I right here guys ? Then you slide the cam out leave them in place and slide the new one in.

the only problem i have w/ what your telling people about the wooden rods is - How do you know these held the lifters up? i've done 15+ cam swaps w/out a tool like that and i havent had a lifter fall yet. so i ask, what makes you think the lifters stayed in place due to the rods? did you push down on one w/ a pushrod or something to see if it would move?

That makes the cam path clear for cam removal.
And BTW, I usually wrap the 5/16 rods with medical wrap tape which adds a little thickness and makes the rods surface no so slippery so a lifter can't "slip by" in case the rod isn't wide enough. Some poeple wrap them with velcro.
thanks guys. i did NO rotation of the cam when the old one came out. i was not going to push on the lifters to see if the rods worked.i used the rods for the piece of mind,all went well thats all i care about. ow...and i don't have stock lifters,well...i don't even have the stock block in my car.
