You may be surprised. I've seen the thrust destroyed (pieces falling out while changing the oil) after some low rpm pulls on the dyno. No other run time, just maybe an hour of idling and a couple pulls.

Really. Then that was a **** poor assembly job.

In the photo, it looks like the bearing halves we removed from some of the caps. Half the thrust bearing looks to be in place.

Like I said, more info and pics would be interesting.

I built the engine and it had .008" end play when it went together. It was an issue with the drivetrain. The crank was being pushed against the thrust bearing instead of having any free play. I don't remember the issue, but you could see where the input shaft was hitting the plug in the rear of the crankshaft.

Once that issue was sorted out, I rebuilt the engine and it made over 700whp. No complaints after that.

With 607rwhp for 5k+ miles I dont see how it would be an initial build issue at all. Is it possible to generate that much heat in the bottom end if the oil was at the proper level?

Post a picture of the thrust bearing that came out of the engine. That's what needs to be seen.

The bluing of the main caps is from the crankshaft counterweights rubbing, but the thrust bearing, under normal operating conditions, prevents that from happening. The condition of the thrust bearing will give a better indication of what happened.

I will when I get home. I also dont know how the guy got the car back to my house. When i got home and tried to crank it, it only ran for maybe 6-8min tops before it would just go dead. No CEL at all. Im guessing it was mechanical shutdown from so much friction.

You meant on a chassis dyno. I see. Now I get you.
Apologies. You can't control the owner bolting the converter up.

Anybody know what kind of time frame it would take to cause this much damage?

Like I said I got fkd once like this AND it was a "friend" who did it. Gives the cars back to me with parts of number 7 piston in the exhaust and the fuel filter was almost completely blocked. They must have put dirty fuel in it from one of those outside 55 gal drums , blocked the filter then ran the **** out of it. 7 ran too lean and broke.

I found out later he LET HIS KID DRIVE THE CAR(who is a member on this site)!. I lost over 5k on the mess. There wasn't too much I could do about EXCEPT next time I know better. NO test drives, no driving the car without me in it. If the shop doesn't like it TOO FKIN BAD!

I know a shop didn't do this mess and I can tell you WITHOUT A DOUBT that engine was built properly.

I've been doing this a long time, I can smell BULL **** a 10 mile's away!

Few more pics including the thrust bearing. All of the rod bearings look similar.
