buying a LS1 to put in my truck, rebuild questions...
I'm fixing to buy an LS1 with around 85,000-95,000 miles on it. One of the valve seals is leaking. But, the guy is selling it for $450!
I want to get my 5.3 heads worked on (ported/polished, valve-job, etc.) and put them on the LS1.
I'm thinking about putting the cam I currently have in my truck in it. But, I might go larger (212/218, 216/220, or a Custom FMS cam). How high could I go on lift, considering I will be using the 5.3 heads?
I don't plan on any kind of power adder, so what piston rings/pistons would be a good replacement?
Are you LS1 guys having good luck with the Eagle cranks/rods?
Please give your opinions and advice! Thanks!

Yes Eagles are very good parts.
I would not go much bigger than a 224, maybe the 226 or a 228. but you want good lowend with the truck, but the limiting factor would not be the heads IMO, but you loosing lowend torque.
Sounds like a heck of a deal.

Money is very tight as of right now, but had to get it for that price. I was thinking about getting one of the FMS custom cams like the 216/220-113LSA. Don't know what the lift is on that one, but I think it might do pretty good in my truck.

Nice price on the LS1! Yep, be carefull of the cam selection. You don't want a top end screamer with the size and weight of the truck, especially running the 5.3L heads. Also keep in mind you will gain compression when you go with the truck heads due to smaller combustion chamber. Most of the LS1 guys go to the 5.3 heads when not running a blower or big nitrous shots.
Post in the truck section for help selecting a cam with your projected setup. Lots of folks over there have already done this and sometimes do not read this area.
